FootWell® was founded on a single principle – that animals should never suffer for fashion. All one has to do is visit a slaughterhouse to understand the sadness, pain and fear that fills the air when animals are herded together and killed for their skins. And when one learns – as we did a few years ago – of fur farms that beat and skin animals alive, it becomes difficult to stand back and watch. As we witnessed the fashion world’s demands turning the supply chain into a barbaric, torture-filled environment, we knew it was time to make a change. Driven by the importance of our goal – and by the eco-consciousness that filled our California offices – we began to invest time and resources into developing cruelty-free footwear. Even if the path to profit was unclear, we were determined to give a voice to animals and transform industry practices. Our research and development began in Australia, where millions of animals are killed for their skins every year. Working with sheep farmers, we eventually established a production method that produced soft, silky shearling by hand without requiring the animal to be skinned or harmed in any way. Shortly after that, we established a manufacturing process that could incorporate our animal-friendly shearling into the high-quality footwear designs we had been creating in Los Angeles for nearly a decade. Many months and prototypes later, we patented Eco-Shearling™ - the world’s first animal-friendly shearling product of its kind. We have now made Eco-Shearling™ available to retailers and distributors all over the world, and we are proud to share the story of our soft and cozy footwear line with everyone who wants to end animal suffering.
